Post-translational Processing

Translation of mRNA by a ribosome produces a poly-peptide known as the primary transcript. Before this primary transcript is transported to its final location to perform its intended function, it must first be altered in various ways. These alterations are collectively known as post- translational modification and are vital to the correct location and functioning of proteins.
