The National State of Disaster due to the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the disruption of education in South Africa, and, therefore, the loss of valuable teaching time and disruption of the school calendar. As a result, the DBE has created a Recovery Framework including revised Annual Teaching Plans (ATPs) to assist schools and teachers to ensure that the 2020 school year is completed.
To ensure that– despite the shortened teaching year– teachers and learners can meet all the required learning outcomes for the year, we have created this resource to support teachers and learners during this difficult time. This Survival Guide aims to identify areas where teacher-facing time is reduced. In addition, it aims to identify various strategies suchas:
- Trimming of the curriculum;
- Grouping or reorganising of content;
- Creating opportunities for learner-centered work;and
- Opportunities in which blended learning can take place.
