Design to Date Grade 10 Teacher’s Guide

The Grade 10 Design to Date Teacher’s Guide aims to: 1) To make the teaching process and environment less stressful and more enjoyable for the teacher as the essentials are laid out in the guide. The teacher’s guide is laid out in exactly the same format as the students workbook so that both teacher and student will be on the same page at all times. Teachers can now spend their time presenting the lesson and maintaining discipline. 2) To decrease the amount of preparation time for the teachers, as well as increase confidence levels as the “foreign” disciplines are covered in the simple, exciting way- requiring little demonstration by the teacher. 3) To increase discipline and work ethic in the students- students are encouraged to be self-disciplined through deadline sheets, keeping track of their results and setting goals. 4) To instil in the students an attitude that Design is a socially powerful, economically viable and relevant subject-the workload is substantial, and highly structured. The studentss are expected to build on their prior knowledge, as tasks become more challenging. The learners are challenged to formulate their own opinions and to think critically. 5) To adopt a sound teaching methodology while still focusing on the content which is needed in the respective FET grades to sufficiently prepare them. 6) To include a wide variety of assessment forms (both formal and informal) to ensure that assessment is reliable and valid as well as “teacher friendly”.7) To provide all students with a quality Creative Arts education, regardless of the standard of the facilities, resources and background knowledge- minimizing the effects of possible contextual obstacles to learning.
